Lee R. Jerry was married to Clara Simpson. They did not have any children. However, they raised Bee Jerry, Clara's daughter who was born before their marriage. She was entitled to receive Lee's effects after his death. For some reason, Ruby Jerry, Bee's step-grandmother, refers to Bee Jerry as a male in her letters, indicating the possible lack of communication between Jerry and his mother. On March 14, 1944, two days prior to Lee's death, Lee and Clara divorced. Despite this, in a letter to the military on January 12, 1945, almost a year after their divorce and Lee's death, Clara referred to Lee as her husband. This had a possible ulterior motive to receive Lee's personal effects.
